Volunteer
Ski racing involves more parent participation than most other activities. It is critical for every parent to volunteer and support the club.
There are opportunities to volunteer both on and off the mountain. Notable off-mountain volunteer opportunities include our annual ski club party, as well as helping to outfit the Race Shack on race day.
Everyone should volunteer for at least 2 events this season.
On Mountain Volunteering
If you have never volunteered or raced as a youngster, no problem. We'll teach you everything you need to know and most importantly, you'll have the best view to see your child race.
All of our roles (except bib collection) require you to be there for the entire day, typically starting with the volunteering meeting at 8:30 am). We have 2 runs per event; the first run at 9:30 am and another run after lunch. Volunteers are usually done by 2 pm.
In most cases, you can volunteer in your skis or snowboots, whichever is your preference. Gate judges tend to be on skis (or boards) but you can also do it in snowboots, just notify the Chief Gate Judge so you get assigned to gates closer to the start or finish.
Start/Finish referee requires a Jury Advisor official certification. Please let us know if you are interested in getting your official certification. It's a great way to learn more about how USSA governs races.
All of the roles on the mountain are crucial to running a successful and safe race.
